குஜராத் பூகம்பம் உலகை உலுக்கி, என்னை உருக்கிய நிகழ்வு. நாமும் ஏதாவது செய்ய வெண்டும் என்ற துடிப்பு, வேதனையை எற்படுத்தியது. அந்த சமயத்தில் நான் நடத்தி வரும் மதர் இந்தியா பவுண்டேஸனும், உமா அவர்களின் சிறகுகள் அமைப்பும் ஒன்று சேர்ந்து, 7 பேர் கொண்ட குழுவை ஏற்படுத்தி 1 டன் நிவாரண பொருட்களை திரட்டிச்சென்று மிகவும் பின்தங்கிய 3 கிராமங்களை தத்தெடுத்து, அங்கேயே தங்கி ஓரளவு சகஜ நிலைமை திரும்பும் வரை அவர்களுடன் இணைந்து, அவர்களின் சுக துக்கங்களில் பங்கு கொண்டு துயர் துடைத்த நாட்கள்.
The 2001 Gujarat earthquake occurred on 26 January, India's 52nd Republic Day, at 08:46 AM local time and lasted for over two minutes. The epicentre was about 9 km south-southwest of the village of Chobari in Bhachau Taluka of Kutch District of Gujarat, India. The earthquake reached 7.7 on the moment magnitude scale and had a maximum felt intensity of X (Intense) on the Mercalli intensity scale. The earthquake killed around 20,000 people (including 18 in South eastern Pakistan), injured another 167,000 and destroyed nearly 400,000 homes.
