On Kargil war

கார்கில் எல்லையில் "போர்" சமாதானத்தை ஏட்டிப் பிடித்துவிட்டோம் என்று சற்றே கண்ணயர்ந்த நேரத்தை பகைவர்கள் நன்றாகவே பயன்படுத்திக் கொண்டுவிட்டார்கள்.

1962 ல் சீனாவில் படையெடுப்பும் இது போன்ற நம்பிக்கைத் துரோகமே; சீனாவில் பிரதமர் மா சோ துங் நம் நாட்டிற்கு விஜயம் செய்து நேருவுடன் கை குலுக்கி நாம் என்றும் இணைப்பிரியா நண்பர்களாக இருப்போம் என்று கூறிச் சென்று இருமாதங்களுக்குள் அந்த நன்னம்பிக்கைக்கும் சீனா வேட்டு வைத்தது.

ஒரே ஒரு வித்தியாசம்தான். அப்போதும் நாம் போரை எதிர்பார்க்கவில்லை. அதைச் சந்திக்கும் திராணியிலும் நாம் இல்லை இப்போதும் போரை எதிர்பார்க்கவில்லை. ஆனால் சந்தித்துப் பகைவரை முறியடிக்கும் சக்தியாக இருக்கிறோம்,

போரை எதிர் நோக்காத, அதனை முளையிலேயே கிள்ளி எறியாத ஒரு அசாதாரண சூழ்நிலையில் நாம் வெற்றிக்கு கொடுக்க வேண்டிய விலை மிகமிக அதிகமாக இருக்கிறது என்பதே இதில் வேதனைக்குரிய விஷயம்.

நாம் ஒவ்வொருவரும் போரின் பாதிப்பு எதுவும் இல்லாமல் தினசரி வாழ்க்கையை நடத்திக்கொண்டிருக்கும் இத்தருணத்தில் அங்கே மிகமிகக் கடுமையான சூழலில் சுற்றிச்சூழ்ந்திருக்கும் அபாயங்களுக்கு நடுவே தன்னுயிரை துச்சமென மதித்து தாய்நாடு காப்பதற்காக இன்றுயிரைத்தந்து போராடிக் கொண்டிருக்கும் அந்த ஆயிரம் ஆயிரம் வீரர்களுக்காக நாம் என்ன செய்யப்போகிறோம்..?!

1996இல் அமெரிக்கா மூவாயிரம் கோடி ரூபாய் மதிப்புள்ள அதி நவீன ராணுவ தளவாடங்களை பாகிஸ்தானுக்கு அளித்தது. இதற்கு ஆட்சேபம் எழுப்பிய இந்தியாவிடம் இந்த ஆயுதங்களை பாகிஸ்தான் தனது தற்காப்பிற்கு மட்டுமே பயன்படுத்தும் என்று சப்பைக்கட்டு கட்டியது. இதனை மேற்கோள் காட்டி நான் 'ஹிந்து' பத்திரிகைக்கு எழுதிய கடிதத்தில்(நகல் இணைப்பு) நம் நாடு முப்படைகளையும் நவீன மயமாக்க வேண்டிய நிர்பந்தத்தையும், நாட்டின் தளவாட உற்பத்தித்திறன் மேம்பாட்டையும் மற்றும் அணு ஆயுத அவசியத்தையும் விளக்கி எழுதினேன் இதற்கு ஆகக் கூடிய கூடுதல் செலவுகளுக்காக "நாட்டுப் பாதுகாப்பு நிதி" (நாTஈஓநாள் DஏFஏந்Cஏ Fஊந்D) ஒன்றை ஏற்படுத்துமாறும் அதற்கு கொடுக்கப்படும் தொகை மற்றும் பொருளுக்கு முழு வரிச்சலுகைகள் வழங்குமாறும் அரசிடம் கேட்டுக்கொண்டேன். அத்தகைய பாதுகாப்பு நிதியை பிரகடணப் படுத்த வேண்டிய தருணம் இப்போது வந்து விட்டதாகவே கருதுகிறேன்.

உடனடியாக நாம் யாவரும் செய்யவேண்டிய காரியம் இதுதான். அவரவர்கள் தங்கள் சக்திக்கு ஏற்ப, குறைந்தது தங்களது ஒரு நாள் சம்பளத்தையோ அல்லது லாபத்தையோ இப்பாதுகாப்பு நிதிக்குத் தந்து தாய் நாட்டைக் காப்பதற்கும் - அதற்காக பாடுபடும் பாரத வீரர்களுக்கு நாங்கள் உங்களுடன் தோளோடு தோள் கொடுத்து நிற்கிறோம். நீங்கள் உங்களது உயரிய பணியில் வெற்றி பெற எங்களது பிரார்த்தனைகளையும் நல்வாழ்த்துக்களையும் இதன் மூலம் தெரிவித்துக் கொள்கிறோம் என்று கூறி காணிக்கையாக்குவோம் இது நமது தாய்நாட்டிற்கும் அதன் தவப்புதல்வர்களான வீரர்களுக்கும் நாம் செய்யும் ஒரு சிறு தொண்டும் கடமையுமாகும்.

திகார் ஜெயிலில் இருக்கும் பத்தாயிரம் இந்தியப் பிரஜைகள் அனைவரும் சேர்ந்து தங்களது சேமிப்பிலிருந்து ரூபாய் மூன்று லட்சத்தைப் பிரதமரிடம் கொடுத்து கார்கிலுக்கு நாட்டைக் காக்க துப்பாக்கி ஏந்திச் செல்லத்தயார் என்று வீரமுழக்கமிட்டு நமக்கெல்லாம் முன்மாதிரியான ஒரு அற்புதக் காரியத்தை செய்துள்ளார்கள்.(தினமணி 08.06.1999)

வாருங்கள்;வழங்குங்கள்; ப்ரார்த்தனை செய்யுங்கள். நாட்டின் முன்னேற்றத்திற்காகவும் போரின் வெற்றிக்காகவும் செய்யப்படும் இப் ப்ரார்த்தனை ஒவ்வொரு இதயத்திலும், வீட்டிலும், கோவிலிலும், தர்க்காக்களிலும். திருச்சபைகளிலும், குருத்துவாராக்களிலும் ஒலிக்கட்டும்

ஊடுருவல்காரர்கள் அத்துணை பேரையும் அடித்து அழித்து விரட்டியப்பின் தான் இப்போர் ஒயும். ஆனால் PஓK என்ற ஒரு தீவிரவாத நிலப்பரப்பு நம்மை ஒட்டி இருக்கும் வரை தொல்லைகள் ஓயப்போவதில்லை.

இது இந்தியாவிற்கு முடிவெடுக்கும் தருணம்.

Kashmiri Pandits

Sir,...This refers to the news from 'Clinton urged to save Kashmiri Pandits' (The Hindu, June 29) wherein it is reported that the Democratic Congressman, Mr. Tim Johnson, has urged the U.S. President to intervene and save the Kashmiri Pandits, who he says are the victims of 'ethnic cleaning'.

Though the deep concern of the U.S. statesman is comforting, it is equally agonising that the Indian Government has done very little to protect the Kashmiri Pandits from the onslaughts of terrorist outfits in Jammu and Kashmir in spite of many representations.

Here it will not be out of place to cite the extraordinary efforts the Indian Government took to evacuate and resettle hundreds of men and women from Kuwait spending crores of rupees. The same concern should be extended to the minorities of the Kashmir Valley.

Need for timely action

Sir,

There is disturbing news from Afghanistan. Which has come under the control of the Taliban. The fundamentalist agent of Pakistan. The patronised drug production and trafficking of the Taliban is bound to affect India in a big way. The driving away of Indian settlers from Afghanistan is another strong indication of what is in store for us.

In the long-term interest of the country. India should quickly act to support and help the neutral forces of Afghanistan to take over and rule the country with stability and peace. If we fail to do this we would have to pay heavily for the blunder.

Likewise this is also the time for some surgical measures in Jammu and Kashmir. Having restored the popular government. India should go all out the totally eliminate the terrorist elements, which are at present lying low.

In Sri Lanka , the LTTE leader . Prabhakaran and his leftover Tigers have been cornered to a small forest area, and very soon they have to either perish or escape. Having known the psyche of Prabhakaran all these years , it is likely that he and his clan may escape into Tamil Nadu, where the ground is still fertile and supportive to them. Prabhakaran may find it easier and safer to the operate and enlarge from there. To prevent such a thing from happening , we should have strategic presence of our armed and Navel forces in the Southern corridors and keep an eye on the movement and plans of the LTTE

Further, no refugee should be allowed into the Indian shores, but made to settle only in the nearby island of our specially prepared for this cause after making sure that they have no links with the LTTE.If proper preventive measures are not taken in time. We may be trying to capture the lion by it is tail

One does not expect India to act like Israel in these situations, but at least it should act like India itself , the way it responded to the crises in erstwhile East Pakistan when the situation demanded it in the past. Do our leaders concerned with their own safety and security, have time to spare to think about such major events happening around us, which concern our nations security ?

Sub: Hot pursuit

Sir,

This refers to the report (The Hindu August 27) in which the Defense Minister rules out hot pursuit of terrorists across the LoC as it may result in the death of innocent people in Pakistan Occupied Kashmir.

When we are losing tens and hundreds of our own citizens and braves Jawans every day to the terrorism perpetrated across the border, Mr. Fernandes statement sound ridicules; such utterances can easily demoralize the defense forces and the people of Kashmir who are fighting terrorists under adverse conditions.

The present government may have some long term strategy for resolving the Kashmir issue in which the hot pursuit may not fit in. Such strategies need not be revealed to the world but the minimum that the BJP Government should ensure is: (a) The safety and security of the people in Kashmir at all times. (b) To air all matters on Kashmir only through an appointed spokesperson so that there is clarity, consistency and a sense of responsibility in what is conveyed to the world.
