Sir, India is a country preaching and practicing universal brotherhood wherein people of different religions have been living together for centuries. The disharmony and hatred being struck over the past few years , using explosives to kill innocent people in hundreds, and now in Tamil Nadu, are insane acts and should be condemned by all sections of the people . The outfits and organizations behind these brutal acts should be immediately banned and culprits caught and several punished.

The pulling down of the Babri Masjid was wrong. But killing innocent people is no remedy for this. Taking revenge now will be self destructive. Everyone should realize this. The Ayodhya imbroglio can be sorted out easily if the true representatives of the people from both sides discuss the issue with an open mind. Any amicable solution arrived at will bring both the people closer, putting an end to the mindless killings. The youth of both the communities should not play into the hands of the fundamentalist elements nor the politicians. Destruction will always bring back more destruction and more misery. We are all children of one God and we are here to help one another and alive in harmony. Let better sense prevail with all of us. N.Harihara Subramaniyan, Chennai

Sir, The report "Mafia hunt for air dropped arms" (The Hindu, Dec. 28) Wherein it has been stated that the villagers are more inclined to hand over the sophisticated arms to the mafia men rather than the police in order to garner higher returns, portrays the state of affairs today wherein greed, corruption and immorality have seeped down in the village from the alters of power. It is a fact that India lives and vibrates from its villages and if this is what our villagers are turning into, then we have cause to get really jittery.

The false secularism that the Congress has been practising all these years has alienated a majority from our great heritage and values and has made the people so self centered that they are even ready to give a hand against their own country for a price. The spread of the RDX culture and the escape of LTTE militants from high security prisons are a few other startling examples of this all-pervading cancer.

உலகமே சீரழியும் அபாயம்

அமெரிக்காவில் இஸ்லாமிய தீவிரவாதிகள் நடத்தியுள்ள பேராழிவுகளும் உயர்ச்சேதேங்களும் உலகையே அதிர்ச்சியிலும் அணுதாபத்திலும் உறைய வைத்துள்ளன.

மிகக் கடுமையாக கண்டிக்கப்பட வேண்டிய, நசுக்கப்பட வேண்டிய இந்த இழி செயல்களுக்கு எதிராக,முக்கியமாக இஸ்லாமிய நாடுகளும் இஸ்லாமிய பெருமக்களும் குரல் கொடுக்க வேண்டும்.

தத்தம் நாடுகளில் மறைமுகமாகவோ,நேரடியாகவோ செயல்பட்டு வரும் எல்லா தீவிரவாத அமைப்புகளையும் தடை செய்து அவற்றை பூண்டோடு அழிக்க உறுதி கொள்ள வேண்டும். இல்லையென்றால் இது உலக கிரித்துவ நாடுகளுக்கும், இஸ்லாமிய நாடுகளுக்கும் இடையே பெரும் பிளவை ஏற்படுத்தி உலக பொருளாதாரத்தையும்,அமைதி யையும் சீரழித்துவிடும்.

அதேசமயம்,அமெரிக்கா தனக்கு யாரும் நிகரில்லை என்ற நினைப்பில் எல்லா நாடுகளின் பிரச்சனைகளிலும் தன் மூக்கை நுழைக்கும் தன்மையை மாற்றிக்கொண்டு,உலக நாடுகளில் அமைதியையும் , ஆக்கத்தையும் வளர்க்கும் ஒரு நண்பனாக தன்னை நிலை நிறுத்திக் கொள்ள வேண்டும்

இந்தியா பல்லாண்டு காலமாக இத்தகைய தீவிரவாத அமைப்புகளை எதிர்ர்து மிகுந்த எச்சரிக்கையுடன் போராடி வருகிறது. சில சமயங்களில் ஒரு பெரிய நாட்டிற்க்கு இத்தனை பொறுமை தேவையா? இப்பொறுமை நமக்கு பெருமை சேர்ப்பதாக இல்லையே என்று கூட எண்ணத் தோன்றுகிறது.

எல்லா மக்களும் இறைவனின் அன்புக் குழந்தைகள் என்பதை பூரணமாக உணர்ந்து, எல்லா மதங்களையும் ஆதரித்து சமபாங்கில் மதித்து உலக சேஷ்மயத்தைவேண்டி பிரார்த்தனை செய்யும் இந்த இந்திய கலாசாரமும் ,இந்திய பண்பாடும் விஸ்வரூப மெடுக்கும் உலகை, அமைதியையும் ஆனந்தத்தையும் நோக்கிக் நடத்திச் செல்லட்டும்.

நடந்து முடிந்த இந்த கோரத்தாண்டவம் உலக மக்களை உறுதியுடன் ஒன்றுப்படச் செய்து தீவிரவதத்தை பூண்டோடுஆழிப்பதற்கு வழி கோலட்டும்

சில நிமிடம் சிந்தியுங்கள்

உலகம் கண்டிராத வகைஇல் ஓர் இயற்கையின் சிற்றம் குஜராத் பூகம்பம் சீற்றித்தின் முழு விச்சும் தெரிய வந்தபோது நெஞ்சங்கள் பதை பதைதன. ஏன் இந்த கொடுமை என்ற கேள்விதான் மேல் எழுந்து நிற்கிறது

பூமி நம்மைத் தாங்கி கொண்டிருக்கிறது பூமியையோ தர்மம் தாங்கி நிற்கிறது என்றும் 'தர்மத்தை ரட்சிப்பவனை தர்மம் ரட்சிக்கிறது' என்று வேத மந்திரம் கூறுகிறது

தனி மனித தர்மமும் சமுதாய ஒழுக்கமும் நிறைந்து நிற்கும்போது இயற்கைப் பொய்க்காமல் தன் காரியத்தைச் செவ்வனே செய்கிறது. அக்காலத்தில் நேரம் தவறா பருவ மழைகளும் மற்ற மாறுதல்களும் அவற்றின் அளவும் அரசனின் நீதி வழுவா ஆட்சியின் அளவு கோலாகவே கருதப்பட்டது

மன்னன் எவ்வழி மக்கள் அவ்வழி,இன்று மன்னர்களாக விளங்கும் அரசியல் வாதிகளும்,அமைச்சர்களும் பேராசையும் துர்நடத்தையும் கொண்டவர்களாகிவிட்டனர். அது போலவே பெரும்பான்மை மக்களும் சோரம்போய்விட்டனர்.

தர்ம பூமியில் தர்மம் அழிந்து சில இழைகளில் ஊசலாடிக் கொண்டிருக்கும் அவல நிலை

இதன் தாக்கம்தான் மழையின்மை,வறட்சி,மிகுந்த குளிர், பேய்மழை,வெள்ளப்பெருக்கம், பூகம்பம்,என்று தொடரும் இயற்கை சீற்றம்.

தர்மத்தை குழிதொண்டி பூதைத்து மனசாட்சி சிறிதும் இல்லாமல் நாட்டை சூறையாடிய வரும் அரசர்களே,அவர்கள் வழியில் ஆட்டு மந்தைப் போல் செல்பவர்களே ,நில்லுங்கள் சில நிமிடம் சிந்தியுங்கள்.

இயற்கையிடம், இறைவனிடம் மண்டியிட்டூ மன்னிப்பு கேளுங்கள். உங்களைத் திருத்திக் கொள்ளூங்கள்..

Sir,

That the sandalwood smuggler turned- headhunter, Veerappan, is still going strong and scot-free, is, to say the least, bewildering. The delay in capturing him dead or alive makes one think that there is more to the situation than what meets the eye. Without further delay, the Central Government should take over this matter and launch a joint operation of Army and Air Force to bring this "Man-Eater" to book.

Sir,

The U.S . administration has sanctioned Rs. 1.200 cores worth of modern weapons and surveillance systems to our unfriendly neighbour. This warrants full preparedness on our part our Army, Navy and Air Force and their intelligence wings, and of course our political leaders We will have to tie up all the loose ends in our defense systems, stock essential spares and very quickly add modern weapons to counter the threats posed by the new arsenals of Pakistan. The Government should create a Natinal Defence Fund for which 100 per cent tax exemption should be given. Enormous amount of unaccounted money and wealth can be tapped for this fund.

It is time to go nuclear and take up indigenous defense production in a big way the public and private sector giants should be encouraged to play their role in strengthening and meeting the defense needs of the country.

Sir,

Nobody seems to be safe in this country neither the common man nor a VIP such as Beant Singh, however well protected he might be. This is the loud message of the recent blasts in Punjab and Kashmir. The lack of patriotism, political will and administrative efficiency has led to the spread of the RDX culture. The scraping of the TADA by the Government , and the support extended to this move by certain Opposition parties, clearly show their concern for the votes of the minorities.

The need of the hour is at least a new national leader of the caliber of Patel and Rajaji. This country does not have any death of such leaders, who should now come out and enter the political scene, instead of remaining passive on lookers to what is happening all around.

Sir,

The election have once again thrown up a hung parliament, may be of a lesser degree. Outwardly this may look like a confused verdict, but this appears to be one of the wisest pronouncements the common man has given duly considering the operation before him for the Centre and at the same time with the weightage to the local issues.

As the campaign began, the overall mood of the people was for a change and for the BJP. A significant percentage, Including a large number of Muslims, for first time, were in favour of giving Mr.Vajpayee a try. But the strong line adopted by the party on the Ayodhya issue made them review their decision. It is under the light that the people rightly thought that giving an absolute majority to the party, still with blatant signs of rashness, is not good and hence have endorsed it with a rider. The figure of 250+ reflects this concern of the people and to that extant it is a victory for the people of this country. It is indeed heartening to see the voters coming of age in this poll. If the BJP is keen on ruling this country, it should leave its hard postures on all controversial issues and adopt the route of winning over the people by persuasion and dialogue.

If the BJP-AIADMK tie-up is an un-principled alliance, can anyone truthfully say what the principles of Indian politics are? Have not our politicians let them go a long time ago?

Thirteen parties, very different in their ideologies, without any pre-poll alliance and common manifesto, hijacking the governance and making it a laughing ; these 20 months is it principled? One expect only one set of people to re-principled, watching the country being ruled, ruined, by parties with a lesser mandate.

The Election Commission's reasoning in allowing the Prime Minister to use the Government/Air Force helicopters and a plane for electioneering on the plea that he stands apart from all others is neither convincing nor fully justified. The EC should remember that Mr. Rao is campaigning as the congress (I) president. If it is concerned with the security of the Prime Minister, it would be only proper on its part to permit him to do so on payment of the standard cost for their use to the national exchequer. To give teeth to all the Ec's fiats, it would be necessary to pass a legislation empowering the declaration of President's rule at the center and Governor's rule in all the states as soon as elections are declared.

கலை நிகழ்ச்சி என்ற பெயரால் இத்தகைய தரக்குறைவான ஆட்டங்களை நிகழ்த்த வேண்டாம் என்று தமிழகத்தில் உள்ள ஆயிரம் ஆயிரம் அம்மன் கோவில்களின் நிர்வாகிகளையும் நிர்வாகக் குழுக்களையும் கேட்டு கொள்கிறேன்.

கார்கிலில் மிகக் கடுமையான சூழலில் போர் புரிந்து, அதிநவீன ஆயுதங்கள் தாங்கிய மூவரராத்திற்க்கும் மேலான அண்ணியப் படையை, ஊடுருவல் காரர்களை வீரட்டியடித்து நம் ராணுவம் மிகப் பெரிய சாதனை புரிந்துள்ளது.

ஒரு சிறிய மலைப் பகுதியில் மறைந்து கொண்டு பத்து ஆண்டுகளுக்கு மேல் நூற்றுக்கணக்கான கொலைகளும்கொள்ளைகளையும் செய்து வரும் சந்தன வீரப்பனையும் அவனது கூட்டாளிகளையும் உயிருடன் பிடிப்பதோ அல்லது கூண்டோது அழிப்பதோ இந்த ராணுவத்திற்கு இயலாத காரியம் அல்ல. அதற்கான முயற்சியை தமிழக,கர்நாடக அரசுகள் முனைப்புடன் செய்ய முன்வரவில்லை .

இனியும் தாமதிக்காமல் குறிப்பிட்ட காலவரைக்குள் இதனை செய்து முடித்து மக்களின் நல்மதிப்பைப் பெற மத்திய மாநில அரசுகள் ஆவன செய்ய வேண்டும் இல்லையேல் இது அவர்களுக்கு நிரந்தரத் தலைகுனிவைத்

தந்துகொண்டிருக்கும்.
